Alabama – Christmas/New Year

Alabama – Christmas/New Year

Campgrounds
After leaving SC we spent a week in two nice Georgia State Parks, Skidaway and Georgia Veterans State Park.  Both were very nice parks and would return to both.  Across the street from the entrance to Georgia Veterans State Park was a fabulous meat market someone had told us about.  We would definitely love to go back to that. We discovered before Thanksgiving that many people go camping over Holidays.  The park we stayed at for Thanksgiving was completely full with large groups enjoying their Thanksgiving dinners outside.  We made sure we had reservations for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We have stayed at Gunter Hills Corp of Engineers Park several years ago and loved it so that was where we spent a few weeks over Christmas and New Year.  A…

South Carolina-2016

South Carolina-2016

Traveling
Our goal was to head to the ocean in South Carolina to start our winter.  But before the ocean we made a few stops.  Joe’s brother and his wife bought a second home in Nashville, TN and we wanted to stop to see the house and a short visit.  The house was beautiful and the visit was very nice.  We don’t get to see Art and Nancy very often so even a short visit is nice. We then made a few days stop in Ashville, NC to check out the city and also to visit the Biltmore House.  We were fortunate to see the Biltmore when it was decorated for Christmas.  There are 250 rooms in this estate and the ones we were able to see were amazing.  General admission…

Our Four Legged Companion – Lily

Our Four Legged Companion – Lily

Traveling
Lily had a really rough few months fighting off big dogs.  At three separate campgrounds she was attacked by big dogs.  Her first was by a golden retriever who was not on a leash ran out and jumped on her.   I think the dog wanted to play with her but scared her enough not to want to be by big dogs.  The second was a standard poodle that was tied to a lawn chair and as Lily and I walked by pulled the chair to the road and took Lily to the ground with her mouth.  Needless to say I did a lot of screaming to get the dog off her.  The last was the worse when a Rottweiler broke his leash that was tied to the picnic table, ran…

Ohio – Summer/Fall 2016

Ohio – Summer/Fall 2016

Traveling
With a new granddaughter in Ohio we made four trips to Cincinnati over the summer and fall.  After our initiate meeting of our beautiful Vivian in June we went back in August for a short visit.  She had already changed in that short period of time.  It is so hard to leave but we knew we would be back soon.   We made the trip back to see how much she had grown in Sept.  Her smile and cooing were so precious.  I tried to get in as much “grandma” time as possible.   Vivian’s baptism was Oct 9th and we were able to make one more trip to Cincinnati to enjoy the celebration with Zach and Lauren.  It was really hard to leave knowing that we wouldn’t see them again until…

Summer 2016

Summer 2016

Traveling
It is always wonderful to be back in MN for the summer so we can spend time with our kids and grandkids, friends and family.  We celebrated grandson Alex’s 3rd birthday in July and were able to go with Cassie and the kids to the Scott County Fair and have a really fun day.  In August we went to granddaughter Cate’s pre-school graduation.  Kindergarten is just around the corner for her.  Where did those years go?  We spent 5 days in Grand Marais, MN with Cassie, Aaron, Cate, Alex and Eric.  We will always call Grand Marais our favorite spot to camp.  Oct brought a baby shower for daughter Amanda, get-togethers with friends and family and of course, we had to take Cate and Alex to Chuck E Cheese, their…

Long Break – Back to Blogging

Long Break – Back to Blogging

On Our Minds
A BIG “Thank you” to our patient followers!   It has been a long break between our last blog and now – maybe seven months.  We had some issues last July with our blog and our web designer, son Zach, had a very good excuse not to have time to look at it.  Baby Vivian came in June and along with that came sleepless nights and long days for them.   But the wait for the new updated blog was well worth it.  Thank you Zach for all the time you put in to make our blog better for family and friends to follow us on our journey. I have written seven individual posts touching on the highlights of the last seven months.  Thank you again for being patient.

Life is Good!

Life is Good!

Traveling
We have a new granddaughter – Vivian Eileen!   She was born June 1st (a few weeks early) weighing in at 6lbs 8oz and 19 inches long.  Of course she is absolutely beautiful and so tiny.  We arrived in Cincinnati on June 6th and stayed  three weeks.  We cherished every minute we could spend with Vivian, Lauren and Zach.  The kids were so tired, of course, but showing their fabulous parenting skills.  We even got to babysit one night for a few hours while they went out for a little dinner, a break they needed as do all new parents.  What a precious buddle of joy this new grandbaby brought into our lives.  It was hard to leave this little beauty.  The kids have been sending pictures and she is growing…

Back in Minnesota

Back in Minnesota

RVs, Traveling
We have been back in MN for over a month.  We are so lucky to spend time with Cate and Alex, our kids and friends.  We count our blessings every day. The insurance adjuster came to look at the hail damage on the truck and 5th wheel.  He does not like going on the roof of RVs so he did his checking  from a ladder.   He estimated the truck damage at $7000 with an estimated time to fix at 14 days and the 5th wheel at $15000 with also a 14 day fix.  At first he said the roof would need to be replaced and later called and said the rubber roof would just need to be pulled back, the work be done on the side rails and then re-glue…

Louisiana – Texas- Oklahoma and Weather

Traveling
Three weeks, three Corp of Engineer Campgrounds, three states, and three weather incidents have brought us to Oklahoma with a new hail damaged truck and a desire to get back to Minnesota.  March has been an interesting month. The first week in March we made a trip to Louisiana for a few days as Joe had been making an internet deal on a new 2015 Dodge Ram Dually.  I’ll take a step back and just say that Joe has been looking for a different truck for well over a year.  He had been worry about the brakes on the 2011 truck handling our Lifestyle and also the towing capacity on hills and in the wind.  I want us to be safe since travelling is our way of life so we…

Texas – Fredericksburg – Hill Country

Texas – Fredericksburg – Hill Country

Traveling
LOVED Hill Country in Texas!  Texas is divided into seven regions; Panhandle Plains, Big Bend Country, Hill Country, South Texas Plains, Prairies and Lakes, Piney Woods, and Gulf Coast.  Hill Country is the final region we needed to check out and we loved it.  The rolling hills, a lot of trees, the weather was perfect and many unique towns. We made our base Fredericksburg, a touristy German town, as we checked out the area.  There were many RV parks in the area to pick from although most were booked full.  We found a new park, Quiet Creek that had just opened in August of 2015.  It was a large park with 150 RV sites sitting in an open area.  They planted many trees and are working on grass so maybe…
